The macros allows processing and converting of text from ASCII to Unicode text format and from Mac OS to Windows and Lower to Upper letters converting.

ASCII <=> Unicode – allows text converting of Word files, created with MS Word 7.0/95 and older versions to MS Word 97/2000/XP and vice versa.

The file cp_conv.dot contains some macros for processing and converting of text from ASCII to Unicode text format and from Mac OS to Windows and Lower to Upper letters converting.

Working with the Macros
For proper working with the macros you need:
1. To select the right (correct) direction of the conversion.
2. To select the right (correct) source code page. Go to Table 1 to find information about languages supported by the different Code Pages for Windows.

ASCII <=> Unicode - the macros will translate the selected text if any text is selected or all the text if there is not selected text. When you start the Macros, a dialog window with the conversion direction appears, pic.2. You must select the conversion direction ASCII => Unicode or Unicode => ASCII. After you select the conversion direction appear the next window, picture 3. In this step you must select the MS Windows code page for the output document. The selected code page determines to which code page will be converted the selected text. This selection is critical for the proper translation. For example, if you know, that the old file/text has been set in Cyrillic, you must select Cyrillic Code Page for that translation. This selection must be set both for direction ASCII => Unicode or Unicode => ASCII.

a<=>A - Upper to Lower Case and vice versa
Translating of text upper to lower case and vice versa for all code pages. The need of such translation is due to the fact, that MS Word 97/2000/XP does not make real convertion of upper to lower case and vice versa when we work "inside" of the application. When working in MS Word and do apply All Caps <=> Small Caps formatting really it applies only a parameter, that some text is All Caps (or Small Caps). It works for Word, but if we take the text outside of Word application, this formatting is not supported by other applications, as Adobe InDesign, QuarkXpress and so on. In this case if we import the text in this applications, the text will stay not formatted.
This unusual situation is solved with the new module in CPC v.2.0. It translates the selected text from lower to uppercase letters and vice versa. The translated text is "really" translated and if this file has to be imported in other application, there are correct import of the Upper/Lower case characters.

Processing Text with borders
Special formatting text characters for text frame (borders) formatting and graphics.

Switching of this new option ON (pic. 4) will make the text convertion with maximum precise check of special characters, depending of the formatting preferences, or text with borders. Formating characters are special graphic symbols, used in MS Word for creating of the frames above text boxes and other graphic formatting isues. This characters do not belong to any code page characters. When translating this symbols, the old versions of CPC there were some problems and disapearing of characters (formatted whith frame or some graphical formating). When You switch ON this option, CPC 2.0 preserves all the formatting of the specially formatted paragraphs, or symbols. This converting takes more time, than usual, but is maximum correct. If You are sure, Your document does not have any special formatting characters, You can leave this option OFF, this way the overall conversion will be quicker.

Mac <=> Win - the macros will translate the selected text if any text is selected or all the text if there is not selected text. After you select the conversion direction appear the next window, picture 6. In this step you must select the appropriate Macintosh code page. The code page selection has different action, in the different conversion directions.

The selected text must be NOT set in Unicode text. This selection is critical for the proper translation. For example, if you know, that the file/text is set in Cyrillic, you must select Cyrillic Code Page for that translation.
Go to Table 2 to find information about languages supported by the different Code Pages for Macintosh.
When you select conversion direction Windows => Mac the selected code page determines the Macintosh Code Page to which the selected text will be converted from the Unicode text. The selected text must be set in Unicode text. This selection is critical for the proper translation. For example, if you know, that the file/text is set in Cyrillic/ Word97/2000, you must select Cyrillic Code Page for that translation.

Tip!
When You made any of the Windows => Mac, save the file in Word97/2000 file format. Any other text file format (RTF, Word 6.0 and so on) will loose the special (diacritical) symbols and the language specific letters will gone.

Tip!
When you will convert whole document, do not select any text, or whole the document. When the text is not selected, the macros will convert the document faster, than in selected text mode.

The file cp_conv.xla contains two macros for converting of the cells set in text from ASCII to Unicode text format and from Mac OS to Windows.


ASCII <-> Unicode - converts Excel files, created with old versions of Excel to MS Excel 97/2000 and vice versa.
Mac <-> Win - converts Excel files, created with Macintosh Excel or specified for Macintosh Excel and vice versa.


Working with the Macros
